    Thank you for posting this. I portray a mid-19th century civilian physician and an assistant surgeon, primarily a Southern impression, so I found the site particularly interesting. There a couple of books that discuss the medical practice in the South but there is nothing quite like reading contemporary letters and daybooks. Thanks again.
