  • Civil War Twins

I have been asked to give a talk on women and children in the Civil War to my Mother's of Multiples Club. I thought it might be fun to collect and include twin trivia. Does anyone know of any famous Civil War twins or notable people from the Civil War period who had twins, triplets, etc.? I will mention the famous Siamese twins since they fall into this period, but I'd like to add some less "sensational" examples.

    Thanks!

I don't know of any famous twins who served in the Civil War. With that said, many twins enlisted in the same regiment.

James Price and John Price served in Company D, 6th Alabama.

James Booker and John Booker served in Company D, 38th Virginia (Whitmell Guards).

Isaac P. Ratliff and James Sumner Ratliff served in Company L, 4th Viriginia (http://prideofwestvirginia.org/2011/...atliff-family/).

I can't remember their names right now, but three sets of twins served in Company F, 26th North Carolina.

Joseph Marable and his twin brother William Marable are mentioned in TORN FAMILIES: DEATH AND KINSHIP AT THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG. Both served in the 11th Mississippi.
