I toured the Vicksburg National Military Park yesterday, and I am happy to report that the trees between Battery DeGoyler, the Illinois Monument, and the Louisiana Monument are completely gone. For the first time in over half a century this land can be seen as the soldiers saw it in 1863. I posted some pictures on my blog: http://mississippiconfederates.wordpress.com/

I look forward to seeing those changes the next time I go back. Both times I've been through that park I had a tough time getting a feel for how things really were for the soldiers and left the area disappointed.[B]Josh Stovall

I just wanted to update this thread. Most of the work is now completed in the South Tour Loop. The Kentucky Monument is now visible from the Railroad Redoubt (site of the Texas Monument). Both that and the previously completed area between Old Jackson Road (site of Shirley House and Illinois Monument), Battery DeGolyer, and the Third Louisiana Redan are truly amazing when you see them the first few times.
