I just posted on my blog the official report of Brigadier General Nathaniel Harris on the actions of his Mississippi Brigade at the Battles of the Wilderness & Spotsylvania. This report did not make it into the Official Records, and I have never seen it published in its entirety before. If anyone would like to read it, the report can be found here: http://mississippiconfederates.wordp...land-campaign/

Thanks for posting that Thomas. The Overland Campaign is intriguing and exhausting at the same time. My favorite period to study during the war. This is a gem.

Re: Gen. Nathaniel Harris' Report on the Battles of the Wilderness & Spotsylvania
A great report to read, and thanks for posting. Interesting that Genl Harris said that he "could make no arrangement by which the Brigade [McGowan's SC Brigade] could be moved to my right, and press the enemy from the works," because of course the SC brigade did move to the right and occupy the works at the west angle and slightly beyond. Though by the end of the fight the Mississippians and South Carolinians were no doubt mixed together in much of the area. As William D. Matter said in "If It Takes All Summer," those two brigades in that terrible battle served General Lee as few others of his units ever had.Greg Walden
