Came across this book on GoogleBooks that contains some interesting accounts. One such is a lengthy mention of the treatment of Union troops' bodies after Manassas titled: "The Atrocities at Bull Run, VA". This includes the report of finding bodies dug up for their buttons and bones. The "bones" puzzled me until I read on to find note that they were reported used to make "finger rings" being made by "seccessionist" soldiers and sold to their comrades.
I just started in on it. Enjoy! http://books.google.com/books?id=xp8...ed=0CEYQ6AEwBA
As you'll see, this is volume 4.
Best,
