  • Civil War Naval Histories, Diaries & Memoirs

I've recently gotten into reading about the blockade running and naval engagements. What got me initially interested was realizing the fortunes that were made by some engaging. One example was Caleb House of Houston and who's fortune and influence would enable his son to thoroughly influence and manipulate a future sitting President Woodrow Wilson and the financial agents Rothchilds pulling monetary strings from London. Anyway I digress but it is definitely an interesting topic.

I recently finished John Wilkinson's Narrative of a Blockade Runner and about to engage reading the new release by Tom Chaffin, Sea of Gray about the cruse of the Shenandoah.

I would like to know of any good reads both personal accounts and good histories about Commerce Raiders, Blockade Runners, ironclads and even gun boat service on the rivers.

I find the commerce raiders and blockade runners pretty exciting stuff. The raiders almost read like pirate histories. Wilkinson served in both capacities and as a former Navy man was obviously not comfortable with his service on the CSS Chickamauga as a commerce raider.

Any good suggestion would be welcome.
