Color Sergeant

Does any one know of any first hand accounts of color sergeants or even those who served in a color guard during the civil war? Our company was the color company for our battalion at Perryville and I was the color sergeant. I found it to be a very interesting experience and came away with a hunger to know what it was like for the color bearers back then. We were on the Federal side but reading of the experiences on both sides would be fascinating.

try this book for a start 'Him on the One Side and Me on the Other' : The Civil War Letters of Alexander Campbell, 79th New York Infantry Regiment, and James Campbell, 1st South Carolina Battalion
Alexander Campbell served as color sergeant of the 79th New York for a time and his letters provide a little insight. Not much, but it's an interesting read overall.
