On this day in 1865, Robert E. Lee was named general-in-chief of the Confederate armies.

Well, that was a little late in the game and I am not sure it would have made a big difference if it had been done earlier. Something to speculate on though I suppose.

Dear Sir , I reckon Jeff Davis was a trifle tardy eh ? If Lincoln and Scott had enlisted Lee , I don;t think they'd wait four years . Still , Lee was no Albert Sidney Johnston ( ha- ha ! )
