Unmarked softpaste Silver luster jug. Dixon "Pearlware". Sunderland, England ca 1840.
Poorly applied text transfer print in graphite ink, not silver lustre. The blue cast that gives this ware the "pearlware" name is very clear on the bottom. The earthenware fabric is also visible where the glaze is worn on the base.
Tidelands type collection.
9 ½ inches high. 3 ½ inch base.
*****
I do not know
what man to trust.
Since man to man
Is so unjust;
I’ve trusted many
To my Sorrow,
So pay to day
I’ll trust tomorrow.
