For all of those Regulation junkies,
I have a two part question regarding the recruiting regs during the War.
1. Does anyone know of a reprint of the 1864 Recruiting Regs? I am not expecting much on this... but it doesn't hurt to ask. If not, has anyone ever tracked down or seen an original? I am pretty sure there is one in Recruiting Museum at Ft Knox, but I doubt I will be in the area any time soon.
2. When was the regulation that preceded the 1864 reg published? Gen Order 105, 1861 stated the changes to the "present" regs for Regular Army enlistments to allow for the filling of vacant spots in volunteer regiments, but it never truly mentions what the "present regulation" consisted of or source it. It does, however, specificly say that all enlistment papers must be made in duplicate. I guess the Amry never changes, they will lose everything except your enlistment papers!
As a side, I did find a supposed original 1864 Regulation for the Recruiting Service on ebay today, but don't think I can convince the wife to part with $200 to get it. Thanks for any help!
