  • Masonic Badge in the Kurtz collection

For those of you who may not have time to peruse the entire Kurtz auction collection (all 14 pages of it) let me draw your attention to one item of interest to those of us who study the fraternal order.

This page has a masonic medallion that was taken home. I've never seen the like. It also supports the existence of lodges in the field operating under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of the regiment's home state.

Look forward to hearing other's thoughts.

    Yours,

Re: Masonic Badge in the Kurtz collection

Sorry for the double post, I just put two and two together! Two pages earlier I ran into another image. Though not of masonic significance, it is of the same regiment, the 43rd Mass. Since New Bern is noted on the masonic medallion and that is where this image is taken, I add it to this list.

Not truly topical to fraternal orders, but I thought since they are contemporaries to each other, I'd put it in.

    Best,

Wow, that's nice. Wish our small lodge could afford such a nice badge -- or that my wallet were full enough that I could bid on the original!
Thanks for pointing this out in the catalog.
