And finally...

Look at the first photo. Imagine it with an EXACT copy standing right next to it - only with a different inscription. Now, look at the middle photo and then the last photo. Interesting?

The marking is that of the York Rite, specifically a Royal Arch Mason.

That is a cool image! I've never seen a stone with the clasped hands imposed over the Square and Compasses.

When I saw this subject come up on the forum it reminded me of a stone I saw when I was growing up in the Quad Cities. I had the chance to return there this weekend and went to the Confederate cemetary on the Rock Island Arsenal. Attached are photos of Grave 395. All that is legible on the stone is "Dick, Son of." The rest of the stone has sank beyond view. Between the grave locator information and the Civil War Soldier and Sailor System, I've been able to identify the gentleman as Sergeant Dick Bennett, Company F, 1st Kentucky (Butler's) Cavalry. Died February 5, 1864. No cause of death listed that I could find, but it would be safe to say that as with all other deaths on the island, it was disease-related.
