Hello everyone,
I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and am pretty new to reenacting. I have been working up civil war songs to play around the campfire and was wondering what opinions are out there on guitar styles. I have been able to mimic banjo lines really well on some songs, but what type of playing would have been in style?
I have Mr. Silverman's book, which is classical style, and can play all of the songs along with Mr. Horton's 1st Cd and video tape. I see lots of reviews of Civil War music knocking the songs for being performed in an unauthentic manor. Where does one start researching what the guitar was like during the 1860s.
I realize guitar would not have been carried by the troops, but just like the piano, the guitar would have been in many homes and performing houses around the country.
Are there suggestions of guitar oriented artists that perform the music authenticly?
Thank you for your help,
