Sir, I find your Carte de Visite interesting in several ways, his coat has a nice cuff detail along with the collar. Is that a corps badge or medal he has over his left breast? I can't tell what sort of brasses (if any) he is using, and can you tell what accouterment is on his belt. Nice photo to share, thanks.

Received. “How now about the fifth and sixth guns?”
Sent. “The sixth gun is the bully boy.”
Received. “Can you give it any directions to make it more bully?”
Sent. “Last shot was little to the right.”
Received. “Fearfully hot here. Several men sunstruck. Bullets whiz like fun. Have ceased firing for awhile, the guns are so hot."
Looks to me like the edge of fringed photographer's chair! Wicked awesome image, though.
Isn't that a Model F he's holding?! :tounge_sm
hmm.... I will say this though...a quick recreation sitting, in a chair with fifes on hand... I bet thats a "c" fife
trying to recreat his positioning I found the b flat fife came up higher, the "c" seems to fit the bill
very cool picture

Sir, was wondering if you had received your CDV and could you make out whats on his coat? Sir,as I take notice I also believe he is on a chair. If I may leave a small quote from Francis A. Lords "Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia" on the fife. "There was no finer inspiration for the men at the front than the first burst, crash, and roll of reveille, when a good fife and drum corps, with melodious shrill fifes rallied upon the color line and roused an entire regiment. The effect was intensified when, in a great army stretching out for miles, a single bugle-note gave the signal, and then, as by magic, from every direction broke out the accelerating roll of drums, the screech of fifes and the blare of bugles".
