De United states is a great song to play around with the lyrics. For example you can make fun of your pards by changing the lyrics if you wish.

Here is a verse I came up with......Not related to my friends as I do not want to offend any of my friends by using there name on the forum. You guys can thank me later.

De greatest man to eber lib
Was Jefferson Davis let me tell ya what he did
He ride round Richmond on a big white hoss
He say go to hell Lincoln, you taint my boss!

Old Dan tucker is another one I like to play around with....

Old Dan Tucker was a fightin man
In Dixie Land hill take his stand
He fought at the Battle of First Manassas
Dats where de rebs kicked de Yankees ( Can you guess what word goes here)

Old Dan tucker was a friend of mine
We use to drink de home made wine
Weed pass it round till de sun went down
Den tare apart de whole d**n town

I have plenty of these modified lyrics. Can anyone else come up with one?

I utterly despise the song United States. I cringe when someone suggests we play it. It's one of those on my "overplayed" list.

"De Boatman's Dance" is my favorite... no contest! It is my son's favorite, as well... however, he's 2 and 1/2, so he calls it "Ohio". ;) He knows all the words to the chorus and refrain and sings it regularly when he goes down for his nap.

              Here's one for you Paul:

Well Ol' Dan came to Lexington
An' foun' hisself a cay-det's gun
He jined wit Ol' Zuess' volunteers
To shoot some Yankees, 'tween the ears!

I'd have to go with Ol' Dan Tucker. The Boatman's Dance is also good. And Arkansas Traveler. Oh I love this one; John Brown's March.

I like the lyrics the Canebrake Minstrels sing to Ol' Dan Tucker.:)

I'd go with Dan Tucker, too, but I love the swing that the Camptown Shakers put to it. Anything Dave Culgan sings sounds awesome, with his sublimely natural dialect.

Have to also go with Zip Coon, Jim Along Josie, Dandy Jim, and Walk Along John.

For tunes, have to go with the Sebatospol Breakdown from Briggs', Flatwoods, Chickens Crowing at Midnight, and Tater Patch.

Yeah... pretty much anything the Shakers do...

Received. “Can you give it any directions to make it more bully?”
