Re: period banjos
Our focus is still used and vintage instruments and we are actively buying any good quality guitars, banjos, mandolins and ukuleles by major American makers. Please call us if you are looking to sell instruments by Martin, Gibson, Fender, Epiphone, Vega, Gretsch, National, Fairbanks. We will also pay well for musical antiquities and oddities of decent quality.
I didn't see anything older than 1870 in their current inventory, but occasionally they do. Banjos that old are somewhat rare, and often not in a condition to be played.Carl Anderton

Re: period banjos
You may want to try the following as well for repros. Not sure about originals. Good luck!

At least it's not the kind of instrument a soldier would have brought on campaign -- way too fancy for our purposes there.
On an unrelated point, I see that this instrument was modified at some time. View 06 clearly shows that the fingerboard once extended to butt up against the rim at the slot made for it there. It's been cut back to a semi-circle edge to open up a scooped neck area exposed to the lower neck joint, probably for the reason "original banjo style" players prefer a scooped neck . ( "guitar style" banjo players didn't need a scoop)

Re: period banjos
Purty- I like Bernunzio, bought a couple of instruments from them and real happy with them.
Did any of you see that original Boucher that showed up at Cedar Creek a year or two ago? Wow

Re: period banjos
Bob Flesher banjos are a bit pricey but have an excellent tune. I purchased the Boucher in Feb. and I love it. He had excellent service and was very helpful.
