  • Drum Stick Case / Holder

To the musicians and the knowledgeable,

A pard of mine is interested in a drummer impression and wonders how Civil War drummers carried their drum sticks. I have found either brass drum stick carriages or leather cases for the sticks while doing a bit of research on the net. Could anybody help me (or better, my pard) out and let me know what an authentic way of carrying one's drum sticks would be?

    Thank you!

From my experiences in the fife and drums those brass drum stick holders are heavy and cumbersome and I stayed away from them like the plauqe. What I found the most cost effiecent and easiest way to carry my sticks was slip them into my belt when not in use. Of course there are some full time drummers out there that may be able to help a little more.

US drummers had a breast plate rig with two tubes for carrying drumsticks. Don't know how common they were but some have been dug showing they were used.

        Hi,

Most of the guys that I know carry the drum sticks in their belts. However, pre-Civil War (I think Mexican War issue) drum slings have a metal ring that you can hold your drum sticks in. I am not sure of the purpose of the ring, but it does work.
