What a great event the Colonial Mojo Concert was.

      I had a great time.

Good performances by all that attended.

      I had a great time.

Who ever shot this video did a good job.

That was great. I love how the minstrel show repertiore enters the military parlance.

                  Everyone,

                  Thanks for your compliments.

                  Carl,

Believe it or not, you will find tunes like Jim Along Josie, Dandy Jim, and Ole Zip Coon in fife and drum manuals from the 1860s. The part our fifers play for Old King Crow is almost the exact same as the one in Carl Fischer's circa 1890 fife tutor. So there is proof that the minstrel craze indeed made its way into the field musicians' repertoire. If you ever get a chance, check out the Echoes of Blue and the Grey DVD and you can see and hear some old vets playing Turkey in the Straw on fife and drum.

Not so suprising that minstrel stuff made it into the manuals after all Daniel D. Emmett was a one time musician for the army and wrote one of the Drum and Fife Guides.

                      Hello all,

You can look forward to several Minstrel Tunes to make its way to our first CD we are currently working on in the studio. I am not going to let the cat out of the bag and tell you all what will be on the recordings, but I can assure you that there will be plenty of good stuff on it.

We hope to have the CD ready by this summer.
