  • Repro Bruno Parlor Guitar

I was wondering if any of you all have seen this guitar. Its a reissue by Takamine, who as I understand owned/owns Bruno. This parlor guitar was put out in 1989 I think, to celebrate Bruno's 150th Anniversary. Its one of only 150 made.

Any comments, observations, etc.? I bought it off a young lade who used it in the Colonial Williamsburg taverns (about 15 years ago). I was thinking about selling it as I don't use it like I used to.

    Re: Repro Bruno Parlor Guitar

Greg, hadn't seen that model, but appears to be more authentic in detail than the more recent and affordable Republic and Underwood reproductions. The tuners and the bridgeplate are more authentic on yours. Of course as you show it, with steel strings, the interior and neck bracing aren't period or it would have been distorted by now.

Put a set of gut or faux-gut (Nylgut brand) strings for appearance and sound and this guitar is quite acceptable for our uses, IMHO, if not quite as loud as a guitar made for gut strings would be.

This is one very nice guitar, don't sell it on the cheap unless you're selling it to another reenactor ;) as a favor.

As far as I know the only currently and generally available factory reproduction otherwise is the Anniversary Washburn in the $500 plus category. (Luthier custom mades / museum quality are of course always available by order, but typically well over $1000.)

P.S. Cost is not supposed to be a consideration on the AC, so if it's an innapropriate post in that regard I have no problem to have it deleted- dw
