I am with a committee planning the 1861 Camp Jackson event in St. Louis.
The State Militia had a drum & fife corps but finding one has posed its own set of challenges.
There are two in the St. Louis area that I know of but they do French Indian War, Rev. War and War of 1812 era. These are the type of groups that actually get paid for showing up at events (Us military guys need to work on this). Typically they show up for the flag ceremonies and leave.
When I proposed public demo's and playing camp duties that seemed beyond their realm. Despite the fact that the camp calls didn't change much between 1812 and 1861 the whole Civil War thing seems to be beyond the local talent. I'd do it myself but with planning the event coupled with the fact that it's hard to play both at the same time...
So...Are there any Drum and Fife corps people here and what would it take to get you to Camp Jackson in 2011?
