Drum Beat in American Veteran Fifer

Anybody ever bother to figure this one out? I'm not a drummer, so I was hoping that someone here can tell me something (anything!) about it.

There's a drumbeat in the AVF? I just have a photocopy of the later edition. The only thing close to a drumbeat in my copy is "Denman Duncan's Drumbeat," which is a fife tune.
