I work for a moderate-size museum in central New Jersey - we have in our collection a guitar owned by William Ross of Company A 14th New Jersey Volunteers. We also have many letters he wrote to his family - in one, he describes playing the song "Lone Starry Hours" for one of the captains and his wife. I've been able to locate the beautiful words to this song, apparently quite popular in 1861/62, and am trying to track down whether it's been recorded by any modern Civil War musical group. Does anyone have any suggestions? William's guitar was carefully wrapped and sent back to his mother after William died at the battle of Cedar Creek, 1864. Many thanks to any help offered!
