I've been playing (and working on) a ~1850 French accordeon, or flutina as they are commonly called (flutinas have the "works" enclosed in wooden casework and an even mellower tone). I bought it from a ebay a while ago and have done a lot of fixing up to get it playable. Thinking that some here might like the hear what this extremely popular Civil War ea instrument sounded like I posted a video on you tube: http://youtu.be/cZuT4DCl-9s
I appologize for the quality of the video (captured on an ipod nano) but I hope to soon post some more of these over the holidays. The tune is the Jenny Lind Polka. After playing it through two times I pause to open up the two drones (les bascules d'harmonie) which add some depth to the sound. Dave Culgan, Camptown Shakers
