    I'd be very interested in that myself, also the lyrics. I've tried to find the lyrics many times but still have not been able to.

      I just did a Yahoo search On "Old Black Joe Lyrics" and found the words on several sites, plus one site with parlor music.

      As I have read so many times on this forum, USE the search function.

      Sorry, couldn't resist.

        Gil,

        Thanks, been there done that, but it's not the one. I know all about search engines and that's all I'm finding too, come on... give me a little more credit than that :wink_smil I already found the same stuff you found. The one I'm looking for starts out with the following verse;

        "Old Joe stood at the garden gate,
        but he couldn't get in cause he come too late,
        so he picked up a stone and knocked on the door,
        want to get in said Old Black Joe".

        then there is a chorus, (that's the part I'm missing).

        some of the other verses go;

        "Dinah says to Joe, say what you doing there,
        Gonna get a gun, to go shoot a bear,
        Dinah says to Joe that game won't do,
        Joe got mad and bust his shoe"

        "And he got his work done,
        and he flung down the hoe,
        and he says I'll play on the ol' banjo
        He started out with Flat Foot Sam,
        on his way Joe took a dram"

        "The whiskey flew into his head,
        he reel and fall down in the shed,
        tooken a sick and put to bed,
        three weeks later Joe was dead"

        My mistake perhaps, maybe I'm looking for an entirely different song? Apparently the one I'm trying to find is "Old Joe", not "Old Black Joe". I've searched for both, either way, I can't find it? That's why I was asking here.

        I'm going to contact Marty Liebschner, as he performs it himself. I'm lacking the chorus, and also the tab. Thanks for trying though.

          I've got Old Joe tabbed out. Anyone wants a copy, send me an email and I'll send it to to you as an attachment.

          BTW, the chorus goes "Old Joe kickin' up a-hind and a-fore, and de yella gal kickin up a-hind Old Joe", followed by a cool Sweeney style riff. Great song.

            Carl,

            That's it! That's the one I'm looking for. I could never get the words down from the chorus when hearing it sung. I'm sending you an email.

              I was kind of wondering myself which one you were looking for. Old Joe is the one with the corus which mentions "yella-gal." Old Black Joe is a Stephen Foster tune which starts out "Gone are the days When my heart was young and gay."

              The melody for the Stephen Foster tune isn't too hard. Even I was able to put something together for it by ear, but I've never actually put it down on paper.
