Some members of our Battalion put on a Minstrel Show in black face in the loft of a barn at a local reenactment. The script was taken from a period book of an actual show performed during the 1800's. It was hilarious! After the show the Minstrel troope was told that they offended one lady and that they could not put on another show at the reenactment. The person offended was white.

As a musician for over 30 years (and a bugler). I can tell you that there is a remarkable difference between playing the notes on a page and playing the music on a page. The more talented the musician, the more life the music will take on. This applies to musicians, singers, and all sorts of entertainers.
Buglers in the field can recognize each other to some degree by the texture of their calls. Some struggle to play the notes, some literally sing out the calls with embelishments and adornments.

As far as the Melodians "non-performances" :) go, the level of entertainment they provide is, in my humble opinion, a direct result of their skill, practice, and love of the art.

I hope they continue for a long time.
