  • banjo on ebay

From the Tom Briggs group.. buy a banjo and support a worthy cause-- preserving the proto-banjo tradition in Africa!!!

    Dear Friends,
The prize banjo from the Antietam Early Banjo Conference is now online
and available for those who might be interested. I hope that my choice
of wording is acceptable to all of you.

Thank you once again for being such an amazing group of people sharing
in this very important part of our country's musical history.

    Best Regards,
    Greg C. Adams

In purchasing this banjo, a rich, full, Civil War era look, sound and feel is guarenteed.

The ability to play like Greg Adams is not.:cry_smile

That is a good lookin banjo. Quick question- Were most banjos at the time opened back with a few being closed like this one or was it about half and half?

The honest answer is we don't really know...yet. The data base is still in the infant stages.

I have seen several photos of soldiers with double heads so they were still out there in the 1860's. I think half and half is too high. Based on what I have seen 25 to 28% is more accurate. The problem is that in the renactment world they only make up about 1%.

The earliest double tack head I know of dates to the mid 1840's. The latest picture dates to about 1867-70.

        I hope this information helps.

Thanks for the feedback. That was just one of those questions that I had thought of in my mind but never could find the right info to answer for myself so I just asked it on here. Thanks for the help.
