    Wow that is really rare!! I have never seen a original bass drummer picture before.
    It looks like he has a different type of harness, I cant tell what it is.

      Some folks obviously agreed with your assessment and bid accordingly. Winning bid: $568, which, frankly, was rather less than I expected. The guy who won probably thinks he got a great deal.

        interesting cuffs on this uniform and the description of the drum head design etc could lead one to think that perhaps he's actually member of a civilian type band associated with a local fraternal org. or lodge...

        just my two cents plain

            Looks like he's wearing a drummer's apron to me. They aren’t very common but were intended to prevent wear and tear on uniform fabric. I believe they were more common in the 18th century and used extensively by the Brits...
            A snare drum version would have covered the drummer's left thigh.

              I'd say it is a Masonic, or some other fraternal organization, Apron along the lines of the ones shown below. The eye in the pyramid is a Masonic symbol. Nice image.
