Re: "Goober Peas"
There are two songs called, Carry Me Back to Ol' Virginny. One is postbellum. The prewar song by the same name has an alternative title of De Floating Scow of Ol' Virginny. Here's a where the title is Carry Me Back to Ol' Virginny : http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/le...es=4;range=0-3 Here's a link where the title is De Floating Scow : http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/le...es=2;range=1-2 An examination of the text in both will show they are the same song which is a Christy's Minstrels melody from 1847.
I play the song and will certainly be playing it this weekend at the LH. Wish I could sing it and play at the same time. While concentrating on text, the fingers usually get lost in the banjar strings. Considering how bad my singing is, it may be a good thing I cannot sing and play at the same time.
