Its a flintlock. Interestingly 1st Ala. Veteran A.P McMorries' "History of the First Regiment of Alabama Volunteers" notes the regiment recieved flint lock guns after being exchanged from prison in late 1862 (the regiment having been largely captured at Island NO. 10), though he suggests they were smoothbore muskets, firing buck and ball during the fighting at Port Hudson. (p. 49)
