Re: Worth taking a look!
When not sure I think the default is to the Confederate label as it will bring a higher price than a Federal image. No matter how you label the thing it is a great image and anyone would love to have it in their collection.

It is a really good image but I agree there is just too much Federal clothing and gear.Russ Dykes

Re: Worth taking a look!
Definitely a Federal image....I don't even understand how it can be confused for a CS image!Brian White

Re: Worth taking a look!
The seller says:
"Johnny 3 wears a civilian style coat with lapels, holds a Yankee canteen in one hand and hardtack in the other."
Its a federal sack coat that's unbuttoned, fer cryin' out loud! Look at the vented cuff, the brass buttons, the dark color, etc.
Oh well. It's a nice image of Federals in the field at any rate. But at 14 Grand, I won't be searching between the sofa cushions for spare change to buy this one any time soon.

Re: Worth taking a look!
Took me only 2 minutes to determine it was Federal. The hat on the rifle may have thrown him off. You can even look at the rolled trouser cuff and see the federal trouser construction. I love all the good shots of the braces.Timothy J. Koehn

Re: Worth taking a look!
That's a nice image, but it struck me the first time through as a federal group. Too much federal (Hats, uniforms, equipment) in the photo. Even the cartridge box hanging off the stack of muskets has the US plate in reverse. I think the Frederick Md. image is still safe as one of the top Confederates in the field image. That hardtack is huge.Ken Raia

Re: Worth taking a look!
Glad to see I was not the only one who doubted the identity. Just nothing to say "Confederate" about it. Still a great image.Jim Mayo

Re: Worth taking a look!
I guess I'll jump on the dogpile and agree it's most likely Federal. I could find absolutely nothing that pointed definitively to Confederate, a little civilian thrown in but everything military definitely loooks federal.Robert Collett

New Photo of CS Infantry on Campaign????
Old South Antiques has a photo they claim is a newly discovered one of CS infantry on campaign. Hmmmmm, I am not a good judge of this but I am skeptical. A very nice photo anyway. What do you all think? You be the judge....
** Has this been covered elsewhere?

I saw this image today as well, and agree. I'm just not 100% sold that those are rebs. It is neat to see new stuff surface that nobody has seen.Christopher E. McBroom, Capt.

Re: New Photo of CS Infantry on Campaign????
For what it is worth, I agree. I see what looks like a federal issue shirt, a sack coat (look at the cuff vent) all forage caps, federal canteen, haversack and cartridge box. I can't imagine those are really Johnnies.V/R
