Since apparently no genuine copy of this photograph is known to exist, the best quality is likely the large shot from Miller's Photographic History from 1911. This is a high quality scan of that shot from the book that I just made, so this might be the best we can get of this tremendous photograph.

Re: Decent quality of White House Landing prisoners
Sir, great image indeed. I have a copied image from the book of Millers work at our local heritage room.
Here are two links to Millers work.http://www.quinnipiac.edu/other/abl/...ilwar/toc.html and http://djvued.libs.uga.edu/E468x7M647/phcwmenu.html
The second link has better resoulation than the first but the first link posts only five volumes.
I do not remember off hand which volume this image is in. Great image, once again, thanks for posting.Mel Hadden, Husband to Julia Marie, Maternal Great Granddaughter of

Re: Decent quality of White House Landing prisoners
Ryan,
I agree with your interpretation of the photo, "Decent quality of White House Landing prisoners", they dont look to shabby. Are you commenting on the quality of the photo, or how decent the prisoners look? If the later, not dirty as a bunch of hobos, and not sportin a bunch of holes in theyre clothes either. I know we dont know how old those clothes are, and who these guys are. Maybe they might have just gotten out of battle, and all took bathes with soap provided by the US Sanitary commison. Maybe thats why they look so good.

PS Is that federal hat brass on the guy 4th from the left in the 2nd photo?Ken Irvin

Re: Decent quality of White House Landing prisoners
Ken,
I was referring to the quality of the image itself i.e. the resolution. A high res shot would just be fantastic, but alas I don't think any exist.
Couple of thoughts:
- that guy definitely looks like he is wearing federal hat brass like you'd see on a Hardee Hat or something of that sort.
- I like that there is a guy still wearing a frock coat in mid-1864.Ryan Burns
