  • Great Western CS Image

    Thought I would share this great image. This image is on the homepage of the Tennessee SCV.

    [URL="http://www.tennessee-scv.org/index.html"]

    Personally, I have never seen this image.

    The SCV site indicates these are members of the 20th Tenn Infantry.

    Sir, nice image indeed..., great looking hats on these men. The gent in the middle has his
    trousers rolled and you can see the inside is a different shade of color than the outside,
    perhaps denim fabric.
    Thanks for posting.

        The story goes that these fellows are POWs from the 20th TN captured at Missionary Ridge. The image is not labeled as such at the Carter House anymore, so dont know how true the story I was told there a few years ago is. Still an awesome image.

          Just to clear some things up- The image is not currently on display and is in the collection of the Battle of Franklin Trust. It was taken off display for conservation reasons along with a few other items that had been out way too long.

            Awesome image that I had forgotten about. It had always made me think it was maybe after one of the early battle or campaigns, due to the frocks. Almost look like the "Tennessee" frocks issued to state troops early in the war. However, the trousers might be dark blue cotton jean, issued prior to Chickamauga. Just a thought. Would like to inspect the original up close.

              It may be the over exposure that the picture suffered on display, but I love the weird discoloration of this photograph. Great image!

                I think these boys have lost some weight since they were originally given those jackets!

                  Re: Great Western CS Image

                  I always thought this was a creepy looking image for some reason. The soldiers all look disproportionate to me. The frocks appear to be in really good condition with no missing buttons that can be seen, all of them seem to have really big feet to me, or at least really big shoes. Also a the lack of facial hair for the most part, I kind of get the feel that maybe these guys werent on the campaign that long before they were captured(if indeed they are prisoners) and the long locks on the guy in the rear rank far left, the frocks and the fact that the image appears to be a Dag, makes me think it might be earlier in the war. Who knows, neat image.
