  • Pre-CW Photographs of Military Personnel

    Gents,

Does anybody know about any pre-Civil War photographs of U.S. military men? The Library of Congress has various pictures of officers, but I am wondering if there are any studio photographs of enlisted regulars, pictures of parades, etc.

    Thanks!

    Benedict,

Military Images was / is a good source for period photos. I have not subscribed to it in many years so I am not sure if it is still published or not. http://www.civilwar-photos.com/contents.htm

I have the first ten years of the magazine I will see what photos I can find for you.

There are several published sources that feature images of soldiers pre-war, both enlisted and officers. Check out Army Blue The Uniform of Uncle Sam's Regulars by John P. Langellier, the Time-Life The Old West The Mexican War, and Mexican-American War 1846-48 by Ron Field and you will find multiple helpful photos.
