The revolvers being current "hardware," er, issue...
They kind of run up against the "armed men leaving camp to get a photograph taken" line of thinking. But in any event, my quess would be several lads went together have their image made, and they donated to or "loaded" up the lad in front of the camera at the moment.
On the other hand... ;)
