  • 1/2 plate that I suspect may be???

The attached showed up on ebay today with a starting price of a mere $2700.00. I suspect that these are living historians rather than original participants. Do these fellows look familiar? I would value input.

I don't know anyone in the image, but I have the same feelings as you of this being living historians. While they have quality kits and look good, it just doesn't have "the look" of an original image.

Looks like Brian Merrick seated in the center with D.J. Tucker as the taller of the two fellows standing. I smells me a huckster trying to pawn off a repro!

No matter how legit this photo seems, those fellows are definitely from modern times. If they aren't I'll eat my hat. Not really, I just thought that would be a cool thing to say.

I actually looked at this on e-bay earlier today and the first thing I thought was its not real. There are some red flags and although its not a bad image I will have to agree that its not original.

fella with the chicken is too big to be speedy I think. might be DJ though.

I just tossed it up on the ol' facebook. we will see if anyone knows these fellers.

I'd bet my whole kit that this is a modern image.

Yep fellas that's me in the middle with the rooster...his name was General Rooster, used to take him to events. . The rest of the fellas in the photo are Johann, DJ Tucker, Glen, Me, and Gar Gast.
That's from about a million years ago at Genesee Village.
Thanks to Jason Spellman for pointing this out to me.

Where is it on Ebay? I'll notify the seller.

Re: 1/2 plate that I suspect may be???

                      Hello All,

I contacted the Seller with this message:

                      Dear unimay1,

                      Hello.

I wanted to let you know that the fellows in the Image you are selling are actually Re-enactors; not period Soldiers. The Image was discussed on a Civil War Forum and all were ID'd.
The image was taken at Genesee Country Village & Museum. They feature costumed interpreters in restored historic buildings, in an authentic 19th-Century Country Village. It is one of the largest living history museums in the country located just outside of Rochester, NY in Mumford, NY.

                      FYI.

                      Respectfully,

                      Mike

                      and here was their response:

...I sincerely apologize! I honestly had no idea that this was a fake. I apologize to everyone except the person that immediately lashed out and called me a dumbass. I will report that member to ebay immediately. Again, my most sincere apologies to all.

                      - unimay1...

I wonder who reverted to name calling?

I knew that was Speedy when I saw the image, now Brian has confirmed it, as well as others.

This has happened in the past and it will continue to happen.

On the bright side, when the image looks that good, you all know you're on the right track.

Well it seems though the seller took the image down and apologized. He got the image in a box of original images. How it got in there..who knows.

I gues thats sort of a back handed compliment that an image of you could be mistaken for original??

I did like the comment on ebay though that it was Brian Merrick who is very much alive.. All the guys in the image are I hope anyway..except the rooster, he died about 6 years ago. No we did not eat him before anyone asks. He was a pet..and a general.

                              Thanks again
