  • Super sized hard tack? O /\ W?

This falls into the recent upside down belt trend. What does this buckle signify? you'll have to twist your head a bit to read the 'MVO'.

I've read about hardtack being issued in different sizes than the normal 3x3ish inches. This one certainly qualifies as 'variant'.

Not only is his buckle upside down, but the photo is also reversed you can tell by the buttons on his coat. So the buckle actually reads OVM (Ohio Volunteer Militia).

If it's the Ohio OVM plate (Ohio Volunteer Militia), then the plate is upside down and reversed. Does that even work?

The buckle itself is being worn upside down. While the image itself is laterally reversed as with all daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes that have not been copied.

          Of course. Mirror image.
Now what about the 4 in 1 hardtack? That thing could kill someone.

Here is the image laterally reversed back. You can clearly see the upside down buckle.

I have seen an image showing one of these "Super Sized" hardcrackers before, but it was so many years ago I don't remember where. Or...I actually saw one when I worked at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. I's Hell getting old.

I think that is Matsah bread - just in time for Passover. She-Hakol!

Must be an OVM unit from Bexley or Shaker Heights.
