  • 41st NY Infantry in '62...weird accoutrements

Pretty well known image and full of quirky details. NYS jackets, lots of boots, a visor-less forage cap, dark blue trousers, lots of kepis, 1842's & weird accoutrement belts. What are the two mini cartridge boxes attached to the front of their belts?

Prussian imports. See older thread: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...-York-Infantry

I only add that their cap insignia is not the Totenkopf, as previously believed, but a script "RdK" or "Regiment deKalb."

I have often looked at that picture. By far one of my favorites. If I am correct or not please do tell me. I heard this from a former-fellow reenactor during an event awhile back, most immigrant (by immigrant I mean regiments such as the Irish Brigade and the Germans) regiments were issued 1842 rifles and gear? I have often wondered why so many of them are wearing the boots and dark blue pants.
