Well, here's your Pioneer Corporal. I personally haven't seen this in a photo before -- has anyone else?

My friend, John Holman, saw this in a great company photo on the LOC at http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collecti...em/2010650891/ Call Number: AMB/TIN no. 5056 [P&P]. "Unidentified company of soldiers in Union uniforms in front of trees and buildings in Virginia. 1862."

Years ago I owned a tintype of a soldier in fatigue blouse and cap wearing crossed axes on his sleeves, but I've never seen an NCO do this.

Dude, totally upholds the impression we put on at Stone's River...interesting that the neighboring 1st sgt has a lozenge, but no crossed axes. Also, 1862, and the dark blues (i think) behind him! Score.
