    I just stumbled across this example of Nahum Forrest McKusick wearing both chevrons and shoulderboards. According to the description, McKusick was a pre-war major and wartime principal musician in the 18th Maine Infantry/1st Maine Heavy Artillery. No date on the photo however (it's toward the bottom of the page):

      Greetings all! This is my first post, so I hope I don't disappoint.

      Being a Freemason, I first thought that this might be some type of fraternal uniform....not one that I've ever seen though. Did a little diggin' and here's what I found. This might be a Post Quartermaster from the Indian Wars period. Kinda looks the same as the depictions in this thread on another site. What do you guys think?

      On a side note, I'm loving what I've seen on this site thus far. I look forward to many pleasant conversations in the future.
