Can you provide the link to that one? If I'm not mistaken it's from the Liljenquist collection at the Library of Congress so it should have the option to view it as a .tiff.

A few years ago Brandon Jolly made a killer fatigue jacket with an exterior pocket, as a field modification, for me. That pocket is very useful and this image seems to indicate that field modification.

Any ID on what is in his pocket? And definitely has something under the jacket beneath his cap pouch. Fascinating pic. Lots going on in it.

There's no cartridge box belt plate...and that top button on his shirt almost looks like coat button.

                Excellent find.

Years ago I owned a tintype of a Western type Federal, who made major alterations to his fatigue blouse. Not only did he add two exterior pockets to the front below the belt, he also cut a slash opening on the outside to access his breast pocket. Not satisfied there, he added three extra buttons between the four buttons in front! When I had a new blouse made, I did those same alterations to mine. They are quite handy.

I assume you mean the absence of a plate on his cartridge box sling? That plate is likely in the middle of his back as the subject appears to have reversed his cartridge box to appear on the correct side in the mirror-image tintype.
