  • Question of not uniform but cap

Question here is the report of the uniform : Description of uniform: “Rooks is attired in the early war uniform of the “Moore Creek Rifle Guards”: a dark blue nine button frock coat with red cuffs, sky blue kepi, and tarred canvas waist belt.” Page 313,

Now this style kepi is seen on all 8th/18th NC at enlistment regardless of the rest of the uniform, etc. This seams to be across the Reg with Co being separated in appearance by jacket/frock/trousers/accouterments.

My first thought to the color of the kepi as seen in multiple photos was not sky blue but gray with black facing etc. Thoughts?

Is there a surviving example and or repro?Click image for larger version

This is in OP , where is the documentation on this uniform specifically the cap. However any sources would be welcome. Please excuse this if it's been talked about, but please have pity and give me a location where to look.

That is what this site is for... help in stuff like this too.

The Osprey plates above are from NC troops?

It looks like he is wearing the uniform of the guy in the lower left of the plate, so the cap would be like a French blue.

Yes the Plate Is Of NC troops. Question is would it be blue facings and piping or black? I have found similar surviving examples but none so far attributed to NC troops.
