Can anyone identify this Union NCO's rank?

Adam,

While I can't tell for certain, he appears to be holding a Musician's Sword vice a NCO Sword and so I assume he is a Drum Major. The use of unusual or altered chevrons by Drum Majors does not seem to be uncommon.

The light stripes on the inside of the chevrons look white, and in between them looks darker than the coat, and darker than the space between the lower chevron stripes. May be black, but may be red as the emulsion likely would not be sensitive to red. And the two rockers above have a peak, like the popular Federal "shield". Third rocker arc may have some significance, but I'm drawing a blank.

Stylized "shield" red, white and blue chevrons - yeah, this screams drum major!
