Hello folks. I am a reenactor from Kansas and I reenact the 8th Kansas vol. infantry. There is a pretty well known photo of the 8th. I was wondering if anyone has really researched this photo. I know the man who wrote the book on the 8th "keep the flag to the front". I know that the man without a rifle was actually a cavalry member who knew the men in the picture and stood in the back of the photo. One question I have is that the man on the far right front row, it looks as if he has writing on the underside of his forage cap bill. Anyone know what that would say? Or any other first hand accounts of men writing things on hats or other parts of their uniform? Any inquiries would be awesome! Thanks!!
