    Looks like the lecture leans heavily toward phrenology. There's a prominent illustration of the phrenological organs in the brain just above the lecturer, possibly another model on the table, and you can read the letters PHRENOLO on the table.

    Can anyone figure out what the writing on the larger banner on the table says?

          The lecturer reminds me of John Carradine.

          I may well be wrong, but the lettering looks like it is attached to the table cloth/skirt and that it might have become bunched up when the doctor set up his display pieces. A guess is that the words are "THIS EVENING".
