    That is a great idea! I have in my personal collection a ninth plate tintype of 19 year old Pvt. Joshua Whaley, Co. G, 34th Alabama Infantry, taken in '62 upon his enlistment. I'd love to contribute it for the cover. He's wearing light colored trousers, light colored battleshirt, plaid cravat, and dark blue State of Alabama issue kepi. Whaley fought in Manigault's brigade, was named to the Confederate Roll of Honor for his actions at Murfreesboro and wounded at Resaca. Best regards.

      I would like to see maybe a series of covers showing photos of AC members CW ancestors. I have attached a photo of my g-g-grandfather, George Thomas Lowe, who was a private in the 3rd Indiana Cavalry, Co. M. The photo was taken in May or June 1865 shortly after his return home. He had been captured in April 1865 at either Averasboro or Bentonville (his records conflict on the exact place). He was quickly released and traveled from NC to Richmond-Camp Parole, MD-Camp Chase, OH-Indianapolis-home.

      I think it is a very good picture but then I admit my bias in this instance.

      Across the Ohio we could see “Old Indiana.” This made the boys home sick. How they did want to cross the river into “God's Country.” James B. Shaw, 10th Indiana Inf.

              The photo is still up on the Heritage Auctions website. Go to the prices realized for "2007 June Civil War Grand Format Auction - Gettysburg, PA. Auction #663." Search "Chickamauga" under title and description.

                        I agree with Doug Cooper, put it up on the cover. No stinking way that they are reenactors. Reenactors try too hard.

                          Time to open up the discussion again I guess... Like James says, I only see 3 slings in that picture. The thing that glares to me is all the tampions, I can not find a weapon without a tampion in. One thing in the companies I have been a part of or inspected is that most reenactor do not carry tampions with them as a piece as standard equipment for the musket.

                                I know this is all speculation, but do you think this could be a photo of the "Regular Brigade" of the AoC? I haven't seen them mentioned in the thread as a possible unit. Something about this photo screams "Regular" at me. Maybe it's the vet stripes on the Sgt. in the middle.
