  • 1880's Gettysburg Photos

I am looking for photos of Gettysburg taken during the late 1800's. I beleive some were taken for the artist painting the Cyclorama. Does anyone know of a site with these types of photos?

    Corey-

Not sure on the site, but the book "Gettysburg: Then and Now" by William Frassanito (Thomas Publications) has those 1880's photos in it. There is another book that I have like this one that has the exact photos you are looking for but I can't put my hands on it. If I do, I will let you know. They are the ones taken from a tree or a high ladder near the "angle" in two different directions.

As [one of our cavalry] passed by, the general halted him and inquired "what part of the army he belonged to." "I don't belong to the army, I belong to the cavalry." "That's a fact," says [the general], "you can pass on." Silas Grisamore, 18th Louisiana

These Tipton pictures are the ones in the book. Frassanito compares them to today's views as he is known to do.
