nope. what was it used for? At first I thought it could be a plate attached to crates of muskets, but then why would one do that when paint is easier, cheaper, and the standard?

Can anyone make out what is stamped below the "CS Arsenal"

      Fellers,

This guy makes up all sorts of fantasy civil war plates, such as this one. He has a set of dies and stamps, and makes up stuff, then creates a fictional background for it. The rubes buy them up left and right and he laughs all the way to the bank.

Look at some of the other stuff he has listed. He used a stamp for a 9th Corps insignia on another plate and called it a "US Navy" plate.

It's all junk, all made up, and designed to do one thing: seperate the rubes from their dollars.

Sadly, there are several exactly like him on ebay. There are a couple guys in Britol TN who are making fake battle flags and buttons&buckles. They also sell a LOT of fake bowie and fighting knoves. Basically, they "defarb" repro irtems, then induce fake patinas and again make up a story about what "collection" it was purchased from, or where it was "dug" or "found", etc.

It's an all-too-common occurance these days..

        Hallo!

"Can anyone make out what is stamped below the "CS Arsenal"

        "Baton Rouge."

I have several sets of 19th century stamp sets, the oldest's wooden box was stamped with each generations of owners starting in 1837.
Some sheet brass, a few minutes of stamping, a little chemistry and...

No matter what the item is, I always steer clear of auctions where the bidding/shipping instructions are way longer than the description of the item to be auctioned.
