Re: Isaac & Campbell sword belt and holster
EVERYONE,
While killing time during my morning constitutional I happened to pick up my copy of "Memoirs of the Confederate War for Independence" by Heros Von Borcke. It has the well know image of him standing and wearing his double breasted shell jacket.
LOOK at the photo!
HE IS WEARING THIS VERY RIG!
From looking at the images of the holster I thought the stitching had come loose at the bottom. But, NO!! It seems it was made that way. Because, if you look at the image of Von Borcke, you can see the last three inches of is pistol's barrel protruding from the bottom of the holster!
PLEASE, someone with my technical skills than me, find a good high resolution image of Von Borcke and place it hear - showing the details of the man wearing this very rig.PATRICK CRADDOCK

I found the sabre intriguing-
Especially-"The sabre in not in new condition the etching is not as clear as it once was because of being used and blood stained, and of its age."

Getting back to the original post and Patrick's reply: does anyone have a copy of that Von Borcke photo they can post? I would like to compare his rig to the one on the auction. Actually, I'm kind of surprised that Patrick's post didn't generate a little more excitement.Michael Comer

Maybe most of the potential postees are away this weekend.......?Ken Pettengale

Re: Isaac & Campbell sword belt and holster
Ta-da! Check out the second paragraph. And the photo at the bottom of the page. http://www.firearmsmuseum.org.au/Tra...von_borcke.htm
The English made Tranter revolver that Von Borcke presented to J.E.B. Stuart. http://www.civilwar.si.edu/cavalry_stuartpistol.html#
Yet another photo. The holster is clearly visible on the left side and the barrel is sticking out next to his hand. Quite obviously a snake buckle too. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...s-Borcke-2.jpg
First image on GIS that popped up. http://www.gulftel.com/firstfreedom/...Borcke%201.jpg :DBrian White
