Y'All,
Here are some pics of a Gardner Pattern Canteen that I have been studying.
The canteen has carved in one side the following inscription:
12th Ala. Vol.
R.A.M.
D
The canteen was origanlly held in the collection of the William McKinley Post #25 GAR, Canton, Ohio. In 1949 that entire GAR collection was transfered to the Stark County Historical Society. The Canteen is listed as being in the GAR collection in an 1895 & 1923 collections report.
Anyways, I thought I would share the pictures. The canteen is in poor shape, but this has aided me in studying how it was assembled and some of the various wood shapes.
If anyone out there may aid me in finding Alabama Rosters, in an effort to come close to an ID of this canteen...I would appreciate it.
