  • 36th Iowa Infantry Regiment Flag Donated

    Gents-

    A while back I posted about the donation of a Civil War flag possibly belonging to the 37th Iowa Infantry.

    Now another Civil War flag has been donated by a private citizen. The owners live in Nebraska but are donating the flag to the Iowa Historical Society. The flag is believed to have been used by Company K of the 36th Iowa Infantry during the war. Please note the "Death to Traitors" inscribed on the flag. Pretty amazing piece of history.     I love how every single "Company" flag was carried into battle. Most of them saw little or no service and were sent home shortly after the company joined a regiment. We have one in my museum with the same family story. Many of these do survive since they were sent home and preserved.
